Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #153214
Hi, I’m Sara Powers — Play Therapist & Central Coast Local
I’m a child-centered play therapist with a deep commitment to helping kids and families feel safe, seen, and supported. I grew up here on the Central Coast, and I’m grateful to be serving this community that means so much to me.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with children and families in a variety of settings, which has helped me develop a well-rounded understanding of their unique needs. During graduate training, I worked in an elementary school collaborating with kids, parents, and teachers to support children’s social, emotional, and academic growth.
After graduate school, I joined Family Care Network, where I focused on supporting foster youth and high-needs children. This experience deepened my passion for trauma-informed care and reinforced my belief in meeting kids where they are—with empathy, creativity, and patience.
I’ve also worked in homes providing ABA-based behavioral support, partnering with families to create skill-building interventions—especially for neurodivergent children. While my style is grounded in child-centered play therapy, I also draw from Theraplay principles to nurture attachment and strengthen parent-child connections.
No matter the setting, my goal has always been to help children express themselves, process challenges, and build trust in themselves and their world.
When I’m not in the playroom, you’ll probably find me spending time with my niece, exploring local trails, or enjoying the natural beauty of the Central Coast.
